Racial profiling

Pick 'n Pay Hazeldean in Pretoria has the worst management in any shop I've ever seen. I have been a patron at this store for the past 3 years or so and my friend who had an incident there has been shopping at this mall for about a year now. Pretoria in general has a HUGE ****** and racial profiling problem and this store propagates this behaviour. My friend called me to assist him because he was being accused of shoplifting. He used the shopping trolley from the main store with all the purchased groceries to stop by the PnP liquor store right next to it. Everything was paid for except a TAGGED! bottle in the trolley that caused him to be stopped at the exit. He immediately realised the mistake and offered to pay for it right there. He is an engineer and I am an electronic engineer. If there was any intention to *****, he would have never left a TAGGED bottle in the trolley. But it seems that being a tall young coloured man gets you to be given absolutely no benefit of the doubt in Pretoria. The manager Christine Sibanya (turned out to be simply the inventory manager) loudly and angrily refused to hear any reason; even though my friend had approximately 2k worth of good purchased from the store besides the R198 tagged bottle. I even offered that they see his bank statement to show that he has more than enough money to pay for this item; there was absolutely no reason for him to ***** that bottle. Police officers from Boschkop Station came in and also tried speaking to this manager for over an hour. it was also their discretion that this was clearly a mistake. After learning that Christine was actually not the store manager, we asked to speak to the store manager. Lorette Matlala, the store manager, spoke only to the police officers, ignoring us as the patrons entirely, and only in isiZulu so we did not understand a word she said. Another white man with a badge that said "manager" spoke a few words to the other managers and said absolutely nothing to us. I've been reading and researching this store and this is not the first case like this. This is horrible treatment for regular patrons. We even let them know that we live less than 3km from this store and there's no possible reason to behave ********ly let alone run away from the law. This awful awful store got my friend traumatized by forcing him to spend the night in a holding cell. This case will be referred to Wendy Knowler and we are intent on bringing a civil suit to this store. You cannot dehumanize someone this way. Lorette deserves to be disciplined for how she treated us and speaking in any different language to get my friend arrested. She refused to even look at us or make eye contact. What a horrible store.
