Poor Service at Pick n Pay KwaMnyandu Umlazi Branch

On 17 September 2025, my partner and I went to Pick n Pay at KwaMnyandu Shopping Mall Umlazi to pick up a few household items. Since we only had a small number of items, we went to the express till. Unfortunately, the teller, Nombuso, was extremely unwelcoming and rude. She told us that if we had more than 10 items, she would not assist us. We had 13 items in total, but some were part of promotional combos that couldn’t be separated.

What made the situation worse was that she then instructed us to pack our own groceries while she sat behind the till, which left us feeling embarrassed and disrespected. The entire interaction was unprofessional and unpleasant.

It is disappointing that such poor service is allowed, especially because customer service and soft skills are vital in retail. Employees are the face of the business, and encounters like this can push customers away. I strongly believe this branch needs to improve customer service standards and provide better training for its staff.
