Poor Service at Pick N Pay Berea Centre
On the date 06/02/2018 I went to Pick n pay to do abit of shopping. There were problems with their lights as they kept switching on and off. At the time I was about to make the payment I specifically asked the teller if it was safe to use my card, upon instructions given to her by her manager she told me yes it was safe as the problem was now fixed. As I made the payment with my card, the speedpoint had approved the payment then the lights switched off again. The receipt was not printed out, therefore I was asked if there is proof from my side that the payment went through? I therefore had to print out my bank statement which stated that the money had gone through at Pick n pay however they felt that this was not proof enough. I did not understand why because my balance had gone down proving that the money was no longer in my account. I approached the manager with this issue, the manager also said that the statement does not give solid proof that the payment went through. My spouse and I therefore asked what else could be proof enough. Namira, an employye of Pick n pay stated that they would have to cash out and check if their money balances. We waited a long time for her return, when she came back she said the cash does balance only to find out later that she only counts cash not the payments made by card. This meant that we waited for absolutely nothing, the cash out was pointless as it did resolve the issue at hand. The problem is not the money however how the the workers handled the situation. The manager Rowen, then told me he will pay me double if I come back after two days. I told him that I need the items today not in two days, his response was that it is not his fault that the lights are having a problem. This indicated to me that I was not put first. I did not understand why I had to suffer because of Pick n pay's electricity issues. He further argued with my spouse and I, he did not make the situation any better for anyone. We then demanded that he put it in writing that he will pay the money back on 08/02/2018. After 2 hours of arguing he asked his colleague, Namira, to do so. The letter on its own was unproffessional, she tore out a piece of paper which did not even have a stamp from Pick n pay. This came as a shock to me considering that they are employed by a store of a high calibre. I still have the letter in my possession which was signed by both Rowen and Namira. This experience makes me wonder, if I had bought groceries for my family with the last bit of money I had on that day, would this mean my family would go to bed on a hungry stomach? Is it ok for customers like myself to suffer because of Pick n pay's own technical issues. If the matter had been resolved in a more proffessional manner I would not find the need to write this review however I was belittled and under valued as a customer.
