PNP Treatment of the elderly

You would think PNP may pick up the phone and speak to me.. Have had over an hour long whatsapp with "Don't know how to help you". Is it too much to ask to have a human being telephone you to discuss. Now being put in the hand of my lawyer. She is neary 91 years old... Good Grief how inhuman can they be.

Last Friday 14th January my mother (nearly 91 years old) paid for her shopping in Hout Bay Mainstream PNP.

She pushed the trolley to the car park where a security guard (pleasant) asked to see her receipt. She couldn't find her receipt and the guard called another staff member (short, rotund and very rude) who made her turn out the contents of her handbag. This was infront of other car park users. As she was unable to find the receipt she was told to go back to the store. As the lift doors opened the Manager was outside intimidatingly (Lyndon Naidoo) with other members of staff. She is now, as you can imagine, in a state. The 'rude lady' was telling her she was a ***** and they would call the police. My mother said it was ok to call the police. Fortunately the checkout lady came over with her receipt. (She had also paid for her shopping on her card). She was told by the Mr Naidoo that she could go, but when she asked him for an apology his response was that he didn't owe her any apology. She had been belittled and embarrassed in front of everyone shopping in PNP and not taken to an office, or the situation handled with any respect, discretion.

On leaving the store she used a small trolley as she is not too stable on her legs and cannot reach her shopping in a big trolley. She was again shouted at and told not to take the small trolley to the car park.

My mother, who is on heart medication, now in tears drove to a friend nearby and subsequently collapsed.

I visited PNP on Monday 17th and spoke with Colin Mdoko who said he would call me the next day once he had spoken to Mr Naidoo. I telephoned on Thursday 20th and asked for Colin to return my call, but to date have received no response.

As you can imagine, my family are livid. She was treated like a ********, intimidated in front of customers and staff. Subsequently she is so upset she does not want to leave her home.

I would like a senior member of your staff to contact me immediately and an investigation into this appalling treatment of my mother. Hout Bay has a strong social media presence and my mother who worked for over 20 years in Mainstream shopping centre is well known and respected in this community.

I shall await your response which I hope will be quicker than that of Colin Mdoko.
