PnP online shopping is gradually getting worse
I have been using Pick n Pay's online shopping since January 2009.

First off, I have to say that a service like this is extremely valuable to me. I gladly pay the delivery fee (which was R60 in 2009 and up to R90 nowadays) for two reasons:
(1) I am able to control how much I spend (which is great if you are doing monthly shopping on a budget), and
(2) I do not need to carry a month's worth of groceries, back and forth, up two flights of stairs to my apartment.

I don't know whether the online shop is linked to a specific branch, or if it is centrally administered, but in the past they would call to tell me when some items are not in stock. This is infuriating (why is it on your website if it's not in stock?) but at least you get an opportunity to substitute the product (because if you need toilet paper it doesn't matter if the dogs are white or blue). If you missed the call they pick the substitutes (steak n kidney is not a substitute for pepper steak though).

They don't call or substitute products lately.

Tip: if you can't deliver, don't put it on your website.

By contrast, Woolworths charges less for delivery and have sent me a separate courier for something not in stock.
