PnP Heritage Day Discount fiasco

On Thursday 20 September 2018 I saw a sign up at PnP Claremont Main Road that read verbatim: Heritage Day Bonus. Smart Shoppers, spend R150 or more until Fri, 21 Sept and get a voucher for 30% off all butchery products to use from Sat, 22 Sept to Mon, 24 Sept.

On Friday night 21 Sep, I went to PnP Observatory at just before 10 to ensure that I got this voucher. I bought R336.64 worth of groceries. I expected a voucher, but when one did not print, I assumed that it would be available at the SmartShopper kiosk the next day.

On Saturday 22 Sep I went to PnP in Claremont Main Road to use this supposed voucher. None of the SmartShopper terminals were working. I went to the information desk where a manager called Lethu assisted me. He was surprised that the voucher did not print, and undertook to call Observatory and ask them to reprint the voucher and scan and send it to him. He came back and told me that no voucher printed. The reason was that the rule is that you have to spend R150 mor more on butchery items to qualify for the 30% discount. Lethu and I looked in detail at the poster together and agreed that this is not what the poster said.

So: I made 2 trips for no reason, wasted fuel and my time, did not get my expected discount on my intended purchases which was going to be 4 pork leg roasts, 2 pork braai chop packs, a pack of tenderised steak and 2 packs of beef Tbone/Club steaks, all of which would have qualified for the 30% discount. In total about R1000 worth of meat, with an expected discount of R300.

Somewhere between the person who thought of this campaign, the person who worded and approved the poster, and the person who programmed the point of sale system there was a major miscommunication.

I would like PnP to reimburse me my R300 and a bit extra for all the nuisance, and wasted time, petrol and effort. I am happy to received these as smartshopper points.
