PNP Epsom downs ignoring clients and lack of respect for religion
Pick n Pay Epsom Downs should not be supported by Muslim or Jewish customers as they have a lack of respect. They've been warned 4 times that you cannot put the chicken and pork or any other kind of red meat in the same fridge. The answer to me was it's vacuum wrapped by the butcher. I then went to the manager who said he would sort it out. We went again to still find it had not been moved. If you not cater for Halaal then take the Halaal stickers off your products because clearly you arent educated enough to own and run a store. When I told the Manager that the owner of PNP was Jewish he proceeded to tell me not that store. Another example of a lack of training and education on this matter. I will be reporting this to the certification council and the papers because now I'm fed up. PNP should not sell products as Halaal or Kosher if this is the case. The Manager then got upset with me because he didnt seem to see anything wrong with putting pork and Halaal stamped chicken in the same fridge. I'd rather drive another 4km and support the Checkers at Nicolway from this point on as they have more respect than PNP which is supposedly Jewish owned and should have a huge problem with this. In these times when there are riots going on they are making sure Muslims and Jews cant buy their chicken.

17 Jul 2021, 10:33Because she's from New Zealand and pointed out how backward Pick n Pay is in this country. We've decided not to support Pick n Pay any more as a whole instead using Woolies and Checkers from this point on. We spend a total of R6000 monthly at Epsom Downs because we buy our things fresh plus do a R3000 grocery shop every month. When I spoke to the owner he said he would do something about the halaal chicken but he'd spoken to his wife and said they can't make everyone happy. So separating what's clearly marked halaal away from pork is actually a "nice to have?" Then you should be telling your customers that. We'll see how many Muslim and Jewish customers they'll lose. Also comparing it to a sanitizer dispenser that instead of the middle of the entrance someone asked for it to be on the side. How is that the same thing as separating what people can and can't eat as a religious requirement? Seriously 1 word....education. I'm no longer supporting any Pick n pay as I believe disrespect trickles from the top down. Im reporting this so that you know I am going to make people aware of this. So that Muslims/jew don't just buy from Pick n pay without looking. We can't assume everything with a halaal stamp is in fact halaal like we do. I had a chat with a checkers store manager today where I spent R1000 on chicken just because of how the chicken was packed. She was in shock and beside the word pathetic said it came down to education and lack of action by Pick n Pay. This news has already reached New Zealand at the lack of respect Pick n Pay has in a country of such diversity and being Jewish owned.

17 Jul 2021, 10:38In a time when there is food scarcity, a pandemic and level 4 lockdown we can't even shop at the store closest to us. Woolies publicly apologized to the community when they made this mistake. Pick n Pay doesn't deserve a loyal customer base.

19 Jul 2021, 14:08I do not see a way of removing the last few comments as the owner said he made the changes and it was a misunderstanding where comments were made but it was not intended to be dismissal of my concerns. So I will retract from the 17th but he acknowledged he had not communicated earlier that he had made the changes. I have not been to the PNP since the day I last spoke to the owner in store as that was when I'd decided I'd had enough. With all misunderstandings cleared up I will have a look when I'm in need of chicken again and give him feedback.
