PnP cashier not there to 'unpack your groceries'...

Bit of a bad-taste-in-the-mouth experience at Pick 'n Pay Hazeldean last night (Tue 2August).. Stopped there on the way home for a few grocery essentials, and on reaching the pay counter I placed the basket with my handfull of goods on the counter close to the cashier.

I greeted the cahier and proceeded to get my wallet out my rucksak. The next moment (without even greeting back) I get taken to task for placing my basket on the counter without unpacking my groceries myself! I then get told "a cashiers job is to sit here and scan groceries, not unpack your basket for you". I'm like 'I'm sorry!??', and she responds "yes, you must unpack it'. Keeping in mind that the items in Pick n Pay is also currently Very dirty (understandably dusty from the current renovations, etc.), I was just a bit bowled over by the absolute lack of basic customer service!

So I just politely informed the esteemed cahier that 'Thank you, but I will not be purchasing these items here this evening, or Any other evening for that matter'.

I then walked out the store and about 5 shops down is the big friendly [clean?] W, where suprisingly the same items I wanted at PnP were available at Excatly the same price!?! Well now I know also...

Made a point of putting my basket of items on the cashiers counter and got ZERO lip for that. Then made a point of approaching the W Team Leader and thanking him for his Cashiers attitude towards paying customers. And needless to say the W Team Leader was as shocked as I was about the incident.

Pick 'n Pay; maybe start doing what I do in my position of Authority - I ensure my Staff Never forget where their Salaries are coming from... [Hint: The paying customer]. And to understand the importance of a paying customer and what that means to your own job security...

Just a thought, Use it.... Don't use it.....
