Pick & Pay has dubious policies to help healthcare workers

I went to do my weekly grocery shop at the store in the Rosebank Mall a week ago. While I was waiting to pay, I noticed a sign that said hospital workers may choose to come to the front of the queue. I am a registered nurse with all the documentation necessary to prove that and to state that I am an essential worker at this time. When I got to the front of the queue, I asked the cashier how I would go about skipping the queue as a health worker, and not upsetting other shoppers. She said she didn't know and called her supervisor. Her supervisor said they are not allowed to check documentation but we must 'look like we work in a hospital' by being in uniform. And only then can they give us preference. I found this ridiculous, because during this time of Covid-19, we do not wear uniform outside of our clinical setting. We change into scrubs at work, remove those scrubs before we leave work and place it in a cloth bag to get washed in very hot water I the bag so that we do not touch the scrubs again after our shift. Due to the shortage of registered nurses at the moment, I am working 6 days a week, but I still need to take care of my family. And that means doing quick grocery shops in between working. We are in the frontline of this disease, and are risking our lives, and that of our family's, to serve others. So while the gesture to assist us in getting our grocery shopping done quickly is a kind one, the criteria to prove who you are needs to be revised. I said to the woman that I am happy to produce my papers for her to see. She was adamant that she does not want that and can't help me if I am out of uniform. Would Pick & Pay prefer us to come shopping in our potentially infected scrubs instead? The reasoning is ridiculous.
