Pick n Pay Mall of Africa and Woodmead a disgrace
Not earning a salary due to Covid 19 regulations in my sector, I was blessed with a R1000 shopping voucher for Pick n Pay. This was going to make the festive season so special as it has been a very trying 18 months financially. It seems that Pick n Pay Standards and Customer Service has taken a nose dive at both Mall of Africa and especially their Woodmead branch. Trying to shop at Pick n Pay Mall of Africa is horrible. Shelves lack stock, and if you ask for assistance, you get met with "What" or "Dont know" or "this is not my section go ask that person". Seriously? What ever happened to "the customer is always right"? Staff packing shelves block aisles or knock customers with their trolleys and when you say excuse me, you get looked up and down and no apologies. Manager was nowhere to be seen. We walked out and instead decided to drive to Woodmead. Woodmead experience started off with the bakery section. I asked if they had breadcrumbs as I couldn't find any. The lady behind the counter was on her own and looked as if she did not want to be at work. She told me to walk straight and then left. Breadcrumbs were apparently there. Well, after looking and looking I couldn't find any so asked her where exactly did she mean. Big mistake to ask. She rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed, mumbled something under her breath then told me the same thing and got extremely stroppy. I explained that I could not find any so could she kindly assist. She eventually went looking and said there is none. Already I started to get agitated and walked away and clearly she was having an off day. After we concluded our shopping, we waited approximately 30minutes in a queue as there were not many cashiers open. People were getting irritated and started complaining. They were told that there aren't enough cashiers. The manager just stood back. When we eventually get to the till and our items were rung up, I gave the cashier my R1000 voucher number. The groceries came to R 955. Another issue. Due to PNP not having voucher cards, the process in retrieving the amount allocated to the voucher number is a long process. The cashier told me I had already used the voucher. I told her it was impossible and that she should try again. After the 3rd attempt, seems like she was putting in the wrong number. Then she rang it up as a cash payment. The amount had to be credited. This is no easy task it seems. She called a supervisor who made me push the trolley to the service desk so the credit could be passed. That was a wait. I asked to see the manager but he stood back not wanting to get involved. Then, once the credit was done, I had to go back to the same teller and I was told the items had to be rescanned. There was already a queue of customers at that cashier. They were now irate and so was I as this was embarrassing. There was even a lady told to watch "mlungu" in case I ran off with the trolley of goods and they laughed. I ended up emptying my one shopping bag and was ready to walk out as customers at that cashier were complaining as they were waiting too long. I asked for the manager repeatedly and nothing. He stood against the wall at the service desk and just watched. Eventually the groceries were all rescanned and it came to about R11 less for some reason. We then walked out. That would be the last time we ever step foot into a Pick n Pay. Service is shocking. You are treated like a ********. Staff are not interested in service. They have a job and get paid so they do not care. After reading other complaints on Hello Peter, its clear that Pick n Pay is failing. These complaints are not taken seriously. Staff are not properly trained and have no basic customer care skills or etiquette. Management is useless. Its just a job to them. Yet its the customers who end up paying their salaries. Why not get rid of the rotten apples and employ those who will appreciate being employed.
