Pick ‘n Pay Louis Trichardt STILL contravenes the CPA

This is not the first time that I have raised this issue. The Louis Trichardt branch of Pick ‘n Pay located within the Makhado Crossing Mall consistently charges products at a higher price, as registered at check-out, than is advertised. I live in the area since September 2019 and shop at Pick ‘n Pay consistently almost every two weeks and have had to query my charges at check-out almost every time over the last several months. Records at the store will reflect that I have had to be paid back money regularly by the store. Not only is this practice of overcharging dishonest and poor management practice from the store’s side but it is also against the law, as reflected in section 23 of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. In the past, when I have queried this situation, staff at the store have blamed this on pricing set by Pick ‘n Pay head office. If this is the case then Pick ‘n Pay as a company may be engaging in ******* retail practices. Even if it is simply a case of negligence on the part of store management, this is unacceptable and still constitutes breaking the law.

I initially raised this issue on this platform on 04 December 2020. Following posting here, I was sent a private communication (far be it from Pick 'n Pay to engage in a public discourse around their dismal operational practices or lack of respect for the law) by Pick 'n Pay to discuss the matter and a very unprofessional email correspondence in which the writer could not even get my name right. I then was contacted by representatives of Pick 'n Pay head office who requested a face-to-face meeting (in the midst of an international COVID-19 pandemic) rather than engage in written communication. Since the last communication I received on 31 December 2020, I have repeatedly tried to get a response from the Pick 'n Pay representatives, having now emailed them three times in as many months to get a response, to no avail. It seems that Pick 'n Pay as an organisation care little for their consumers, basic human respect and courtesy or, it would seem, the law ****erally yesterday - 17 March 2021 - I once again had to be given money back on overcharged items I purchased there, suggesting to me that little, if anything, has been done to rectify the situation). I will be contacting the press to make the public aware of Pick 'n Pay's apparent attitudes regarding consumers and the CPA.
