Pick N Pay is just the worst at Customer Service

On Sunday i went to Pick n Pay Maponya at approximately 15:40. I asked the lady that was handing out washing pegs (For their counting purposes) what time does the shop close because i also need to rush to Clicks. She advised me that the store closes at 5 pm however, we need to make sure that we are there by 16:30 because they close doors at that time. My husband and I then went to clicks first because i had ran out of my anti depressants and sleeping tablets so it was important that i start there so that i can get my meds and also get time to stand the long queue to the tills. We then made our way to Pick n Pay and we got there at exactly 16:20 and the security guard would not let us in. The security guard was standing there with one of the employees there Astra Maluleke. We explained that a lady with curly hair(which they know) that was handing out pegs advised us to get here before 16:30 and this is exactly what we did. They told us that they will not let us in because the store closes an hour before the official closing time. We argued and asked them to call that lady but they refused. It was so frustrating because what they could have done was to call that lady, verify the story and let us in because none of this was our fault. I was so angry because we had to buy stuff for supper that night and if we were advised correctly, none of this would have happened. Most of your employees dont have name badges which is also frustrating because you never know if they are giving you the correct name when you ask them. This Astra hesitated so much to give me his name that i had to call your store a few minutes after to verify if that name is legit. The way that store handled the issue was extremely unprofessional and this is not my 1st encounter with this store. They should stop thinking that we don't know our rights as consumers and should be trained on how to handle irate customers. I need something done about this and fast because i am willing to take this very far. If i don't get satisfactory feedback, i will proceed to ICASA and further because we are tired of stores thinking that its ok to mistreat customers just because we are in the black community and never complain. I will be writing for your call and please make sure that i am called by someone who knows their job and the escalation resolution process. Before they call me, they better tell me what are their gonna do to compensate me for the time lost, the inconvenience and the emotional stress they caused. Saying sorry all the time to customers doesn't cut it because the behavior continues.

Reviewer Update
Hi,

I have just received a call from Pick N Pay General Manager Strike. He apologized for the incident and advised that he has viewed the footage and concluded that i was not treated entirely fairly. He will deal with this internally and also offered me a gesture of goodwill which i accepted.

I appreciate his manner of professionalism, quick response and empathy towards this matter.I am happy as all aspects of my complaint were covered and i can say that my query has been resolved.

Thank you to the team for the quick resolution in this trying period.
