Pick N Pay Hout Bay

I love Pick N Pay Hout Bay... mostly... The staff are helpful and try their best...

But, it is a supermarket in close proximity to a very successful Woolworths and a Checkers that is trying to break market share, through aggressive marketing and a renewed emphasis on customer service... However, on the 5th May, I approached a new assistant manager at Pick N Pay and asked why they were allowing banking services at a till (three maximum operating amongst 8 available on what should be a busy weekend after pay weekend)? Shouldn't the store state that certain tills are available for online banking services much like that certain tills are available for card services only?

If customers know which tills are available for which services, then people can queue accordingly? The relevant assistant manager, stated that he was 'new' and would duly try to correct this anomaly.

This evening, at the same branch of Pick N Pay in Hout Bay, the 'acting' manager, who I have seen on numerous occasions at the said store, had a complaint from a rather disheveled customer regarding the prices quoted for a product, it was perhaps a couple of rands or cents in difference after the customer paid, but he was quite animated about his predicament... The 'acting' Manager, called, over the tannoy for one of the floor staff to deal with the customer... I watched as the floor staff employee with best intent and professionalism addressed the issue and resolved the issue and went back to packing the shelves, for which she is paid to do...

Management is not about telling people what to do, but to do what any employee is expected to do... It was a disgraceful spectacle!

Pick N Pay Hout Bay has widely been viewed as a store that should succeed in a competitive market, but with the management and attitude, I am afraid it is doing itself no service... never mind it's customers!
