Pick 'n Pay Clothing

My father and I recently went to a Pick 'n Pay clothing store at the Falls in Ruimsig. There were staff members all over and a few customers in the store. Obviously, there to buy clothing and displaying interest in buying certain items, not a single staff member approached us with the question "may I help you?". Every single staff member actually avoided and ignored not only myself and my dad, but every other customer that was in store too! They were walking right past some of the customers as if they didn't exist. My father approached a staff member and asked her what the manager's name is and she very hesitantly mentioned her name whilst actually looking away us. Clearly customers are not her priority.

We eventually dealt with the manageress, and raised this issue with her. She took it upon herself to personally assist us. However, her actions do not outweigh the inaction of the staff members of that store. This is also not the first time this has happened, Lindiwe the previous manageress at this branch, also had the same issue.

We were very tempted after this second ordeal to just leave it and walk out the store. Unfortunately the store has items my father wants, thus we endured the insult of actually being ignored by staff members.

If this is the way your staff members are allowed to act, if this is how they are trained - to actually ignore customers until they come asking for help (which is wholly unacceptable and just plain wrong) - then you are going to be chasing away a lot of customers by treating them as if they don't exist. The last time I checked, it's your customers that make your business successful. By allowing staff like that to antagonize your customers by ignoring and pretending they don't exist, perhaps we should go an buy elsewhere. One can only wonder how many dozens, if not hundreds, of customers have walked out the same shop having endured the same experience, vowing never to return.
