Pathetic Elderly Treatment

Good day

My name is Michelle Koen and I live in Beacon Valley, Mitchell's Plain.

The morning of 5 April 2020 I accompanied my 71 years old father-in law to do some shopping at pick and pay Liberty Promenade Mall. We got to the mall at 6am as we wanted to be 1st in line for the 7am - 8am pensioners shopping time slot.

The 1st thing that went wrong was when the security took pensioners from the back of the line walking right pass us and we ended up at the back of the line. He told us to wait there and at 7am someone will come open for us to shop.

We waited in that line till 8-10am and nobody came. Eventually the pensioners decided to take matters into their own hands and walk in only to get inside and see that people are already shopping and they were not pensioners.

We were fuming and asked the manager to explain to us how other people were shopping before the elderly that have been waiting for 2 hours to shop.

The response we received from this manager was so cold, arrogant and no sign of remorse.

All he kept saying is "Well we open at 8am so......"

There was no apology or compensation Is that how pick and pay treats their customers, their elderly??????

I am disgusted in the treatment we received today and demand an apology to be given to my father in law.

If this was in Constantia or Brackenfell then this would never have happened or allowed but because it's Mitchell's Plain we don't matter. Why are they not abiding to the rules???? Pensioners shop between 7am and 8am.

Nobody communicated to us that it has changed therefore what happened today was completely unacceptable

I got a lousy response from pick and pay only saying we received your complaint and apologise for the delayed response and nothing else. The next day they sent an email saying we have concluded your complaint but how if they never apologized. They are so arrogant and to make things worse, the next Friday I bought ready made chicken and it was old. I had to throw it away. All I want is an apology and better treatment by their staff

Regards Michelle
