21 Sept 2020, 16:34Hi Daniel,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us regarding your recent online order.
We have been advised by the call centre that they have already escalated your complaint to our Online Team for assistance with reference number ***.
Please read the below information about reservations for future orders placed online. PAYMENT RESERVATIONS:When you place an order with us, we will attempt to verify or authorise the validity of your payment method. We do this by putting a pending charge onto your account (the higher amount you see). This is called an authorisation hold or reservation. PnP will ask processors (banks/credit card issuers etc.) to authorise & hold the order amount before the order is actually picked. It is equivalent to a pending charge that we convert to a full charge after the order has been picked and invoiced (the reserved amount is replaced by the invoice amount once the bank processes it). The higher amount you see is an outstanding authorization (it is not the final debited invoiced amount). The banks are supposed to release this reserve/authorized amount and replace it with the final invoiced amount. However, if the difference between the reserve amount and invoiced amount is greater than 10%, they do not release immediately. PnP will process the order and the bank will put a hold on funds in your bank account, generally the day before delivery is due. The payment will only be finalised (and money deducted from your account) on the day your order is due to be delivered. When the bank puts a hold on funds, it means you can’t access that money or use it for anything else, even though it hasn’t actually been deducted from your bank account as yet. This hold amount is often mistaken for the actual debited invoice amount. Why do we reserve funds?Payment reservation is a common practice for online purchases where there’s a delay between placing your order and receiving your goods/service. Companies generally reserve payment as soon as the order is placed, but at PnP Online, we usually do it a day before delivery is due. Payment reservation puts a hold on funds in your bank account to cover the cost of your order. If payment authorisation is successful, the order amount plus a nominal additional percentage of the total is reserved. We reserve a slightly higher amount when we reserve the funds on the card to take into account things like substitutions, shopping bags, variable weight products etc. as we do not know what the final invoice amount will be until we actually pick the order. Payment authorisation does not constitute a payment to Pick n Pay Online, but rather confirms the validity of the account information entered at checkout, and the availability of necessary funds. The exact amount is finalised and deducted from your account once picking of your order has been completed, and prior to delivery. For more information about reserving of funds please view the FAQ’s page - https://www.pnp.co.za/pnpstorefront/pnp/en/faq We value you as a Pick n Pay customer and are committed to improve continually on our service levels.
