Old expired Easter Egg packages sold

I bought Easter Egg packages from Pick N Pay. Yesterday when my son and his friends opened it, it contained old expired jelly beans in it. When I mailed them to complain, they conveniently said that was a package date. But if it was indeed a package date, why did they not put PD in front of the date? They sold us last year's old expired Easter egg packages.
