Noisy Revving Cars with Silly Bass Throbbing Ruins Sundays

We live in one of three blocks of flats overlooking the Pick and Pay Hyper in Durban North. I am in contact with people who dwell in the other 2 buildings. Everybody who lives above the 4th floor (due to the "bounce" of the sound) seethes with anger whenever the "Car Show" is held.

It is held on Sundays. This is the one day on which we don't have to work so we like to enjoy a tranquil day at home. It is IMPOSSIBLE to do this when a bunch of petrol heads gather in your car park to show their engines, large bore cylinders and faulty exhausts to each other. As you act as a magnet for people with such interests, throughout the day, little cars with non existent silencers also roar around the area dicing with each other. Yes, it is pathetic.

I'm pretty certain that the bulk of the people who make such a noise neither live in the area nor shop in the store.

Why then do you allow this to happen every three months? You are making the day intolerable for the people who support your store.

There have been many promises elicited from yourselves over the past two years but you forget that you are hosting an element who simply don't care about the comfort of other people - if they did, they wouldn't roar around the streets making such a din thinking that we all admire their silly, noisy, little cars.

If it's not the engine noise it's the pulsing, vibrating, window rattling annoyance of their sub woofer system. So this Sunday, after the Coke truck was asked to turn down their music (thanks to Suren Manor, the manager on duty) the annoyance level was kept on maximum by a lunatic compensating for some personal problem with a ridiculous stuttering, vibrating bass (you know the type).

The manager on duty claims it is nothing to do with Pick and Pay as they are only tenants (as if the major tenant (the rest are just small mom and pop businesses) doesn't have any influence on activities in their car park which antagonize their customers) or, perhaps, Pick and Pay do in fact own the center but would rather pretend that their Property division has nothing to do with the Supermarket division. Either way, the person who arranges these car shows was not to be disturbed, her number was not given out as presumably, she doesn't like to be inconvenienced on a Sunday. She was in Hillcrest apparently, not to be disturbed under any circumstances.

Personally, at your store, my monthly spend is down to about R1,500 per month (it used to be R7,000) since I started to feel put upon by these noisy events. I do know of others who simply don't know who to complain to but feel the same way that I do. I don't think any PnP executive would put up with people revving their car engines from 10:00 to 17:00 on a Sunday outside of their home so why do they allow their branch, bang in the middle of a residential area, to facilitate the same?

These car shows have to stop. Any assurances we have been given in the past simply do not hold - if you expect any further patronage from myself, please do the decent thing and respect the peace of your neighbours on the only day of rest we get.
