No telephone etiquette
I called Pick n Pay Head Office in Kenilworth this morning for business and was deeply disappointed as the person answered the phone saying "Hello". I was confused, as surely the receptionist of one of the biggest supermarkets would answer with the company's name. When I asked if this was the head office, the response was "Yes". Nothing more, nothing less. No asking of what I needed help with. I asked if I could be through to the necessary department, I wasn't and my call was dropped. This happened twice. With the third call, and no better greeting I was able to get the contact details of the person I needed to make contact with. The contact details were incorrect which I attributed to human error and decided to go in. I was met with the same unfriendly service, as I entered both receptionists avoided eye contact. Fortunately, I was able to get what I needed when I went in myself. I just cannot get over the fact that there was no greeting, no etiquette or welcomeness. Surely the receptionist is the front line for the customers or businessmen or even staff and should be able to welcome everyone?
