No customer policy in place

On the 24th of February 2018 I purchased 2 packets of 45g M&M's at Beacon Bay branch. When I got home I noticed that one had an expiration date of 4 Feb 2018 on it. I contacted PnP via the website to find out how long I have to return the item due to the fact that I live on the other side of town (about 20 km from PnP Beacon Bay). I didn't get a reply and made my way to PnP on Sunday 4 March. I was assisted by Mandisa who didn't ask me if I wanted the product refunded or swapped - she just refunded it. And I feel that any store that has old stock on their shelves and the customer needs to return to the store, should have a policy in place that you get a little something extra (eg. 2 items instead of 1). The same issue happened to me last year at Checkers Nahoon and the manager gave me a second item due to the fact that I had to return to the store to return the old stock. Beacon Bay PnP is my favourite branch because the service is good and I seldomly have a problem when it comes to stock or getting a raincheck. But I was disappointed that there isn't a policy in place to compensate a customer that was "put out".
