Negligence and dangerous equipment

On the 7th of August 2021 I went to Pick n Pay Mulbarton to pick up a few things for dinner. While I was standing by the butchery section an employee was offloading prepackaged meat from a flat metal trolley which was full of plastic crates containing the meat, he finished what he was doing and started pushing the trolley back into the butchery. Apparently he did not see me in front of him and ran the trolley over the back of my leg causing a deep laceration which required 7 stitches to close. Once he realised he had injured me he stood around until another shopper stopped to assist me and to insist that he call a manager or someone to assist. There was no first aid kit available and eventually I was asked to walk over to the pharmacy section so that the wound could be attended to. A customer that was in the store at the time and was also a doctor came to assist and insisted that the store call an ambulance. I was eventually transported to Netcare Mulbarton hospital and received 7 stitches to close the wound. The wound also got infected which meant I had to get antibiotics and further treatment before it healed. The attitude of management and owner of Pick n Pay Mulbarton has been disappointing to say the least. One of the very first emails I received was a demand to know why they should be held liable. Their store, their equipment and their employee. Since when did grocery shopping become a hazardous pastime? Is this the attitude of a 'family' store? I am very fortunate that my achilles tendon was not damaged. Pick n Pay have not even covered the medical costs that were incurred by their careless negligence and dangerous equipment. They have merely handed the matter over to their attorneys and from all appearances could not care less about the consequences for myself. I have been left with an ugly scar and numb areas on the back of my leg and medical expenses as well as loss of income for the period that I was unable to work. I recommend that you find somewhere else to do your grocery shopping as if you get injured in this store due to their negligence they will do nothing to compensate or assist but will instead leave you with further headaches
