Low priced labels placed at high priced items

I did some shopping this morning at Pick n Pay Capricorn Park and felt compelled to share my frustration in order to create awareness. I went to the aisle with the detergents and a lady doing promotion work with Ariel, suggested I try the Ariel liquid detergent. I then noticed the price on the label by the 2kg bag of Ariel washing powder was much cheaper, so I grabbed that instead. The promotion lady called me back to inform me that the label was for the 1kg bag. I thanked her and we both searched for a 1 kg bag but there was none. The label with the lower price of a 1kg bag was boldly on show by the 2kg bags. I would probably only have realised the difference in price once I was at the till or when I got home and checked my bill.

This has happened so often at Capricorn Square Pick n Pay that I am wondering if this is a deliberate tactic to get the customer to take higher priced goods. Last week I grabbed toilet rolls which were packed at a label with a lower price only to find that it was nearly double the price when I checked my bill. Last time I had to return low carb wraps because the wraps were packed at the label priced R32.99 but it was well over R50.00. Nowhere in sight was the label for the actual wraps on the shelf. My husband bought a bottle of wine for R38.00 but was charged R46.00 at the till. I also find that when items are put om promotion, the usual brands are priced higher or its not on the shelf, its as if you are being forced to buy what is there. I had to get a staff member this morning to price a slab of peanut brittle because it was packed at a label which said speckled eggs. She actually first pointed out to me that it was the price on that label, till she herself looked closer. This store services many underprivileged people to whom every cent matters. There is a high probability that quite a number of these people unwittingly pay more on their groceries due to lower priced labels, placed at higher priced items. I can understand human error but this is getting out of hand and needs to be addressed.
