Kindness is a form of art and creativity

In our daily lives and social settings we are challenged with our own innate morals and values that not only make us do things to protect ourselves, but further to allow others to feel protected, cared for and grateful.

I have been a shopper and Pick n Pay - Parow Family Centre since I can remember when my parents took my siblings and I to the store during festive seasons. I do remember that they would remain open twenty-four hours for a certain period during the Christmas season.

Today I am a person in my thirties and for the first time ever have I missed placed my wallet. That troublesome feeling when you look for your wallet, and your Pick n Pay Smart Shopper card but, the wallet is missing. Feeling useless and the poor cashier (Lemuelio Geyer) being puzzled as you are, and it seems as if she would go out of her way to assist was just to calm you down and help look for this wallet when she is well aware that this might be a **** and/or she would have to go through all of the trouble having to void the items only to assist a new customer.

The cashier actually communicated with her supervisor whom then communicated with her manager to check to help or instruct a security official to examine the camera footage with no success on any leads where my wallet would have gone. All this time I was calm as if some universal energy or guide was with me and the Pick n Pay staff involve in trying to assist me.

I left my details with the manager on duty, his name is Petrus (I speak under correction) and explained that should they track down my wallet that a picture of myself would be in it. Furthermore, I do believe I am a rather distinct looking individual and would consider myself quite a rememberable, making light of the situation since being all worked-up and stressed would not change course of action

As I left the parking are and on-route home my cell phone rang and it was the manager of the Pick n Pay- Parow Family Centre asking me to come back to the store.

I would not say that I was surprised that someone was kind enough to have found my wallet, but I was rather grateful that in a society that we perceive as mostly negative I had been given a chance to see good in people, especially the gentleman who's name I did not even ask, and who found my wallet, deserves to be thanked personally by me and should be blessed for having the dignity to be my hero today. His kindness is a form of art and creativity that has been a longstanding practice in society since the beginning of time. His heart is a in a good place and I could not stop hugging him out of sheer delight that his actions (not the wallet) spoke volumes of character as a human being and a good representation of the kind of service we all long for. His selfless act will always be remembered. Pick n Pay should be proud of themselves!
