It's all about the money...
About two weeks ago I went to do a quick shop at the PnP in Adelphi Centre, Sea Point. I was in two minds about going there due to the terrible construction going on but it was en route and I didn't have my children with me (I actually vowed a few weeks before not to go there again with my children until construction is done due to the air quality, dust, noise and safety). I took a basket trolley. Upon exiting the store (after completing my shopping) the trolley braked suddenly, tipped over/forward and took me along, falling head long over the trolley. Both my legs were bruised (I have photos), my knee was aching and half of my one big toe's nail had come off and was bleeding profusely. The only staff in the vicinity to help me to my feet were the trolley and security staff members. Upon quick inspection I saw that what had caused my trolley to brake so suddenly was the uneven surface UNDER the carpet - so no way to see it - right at the main entrance/exit.
I saw the manager walk past (in the veg section) and called to him. I explained what had happened and he asked if I wanted first aid. I declined because I was now angry at the situation,in pain and just wanted to get home. I wrapped the free wipes you get at the door around my toe to help catch the blood.
The manager took my details and said that someone from customer service will contact me to follow up and hear if I needed medical assistance. It happened on a Friday so when I didn't hear anything on the weekend I thought they might only work week days...but it's been two weeks later and I still haven't heard from anyone.
And, to make it worse, when I again (against my better judgement) popped in there this week past I saw exactly the same happen to someone else (his trolley "braked" suddenly due to the uneven surface at the exit) except that he didn't go flying over his basket trolley.
My complaint is two-fold: Firstly, for the lack of follow-up Secondly, for the fact that the store isn't ensuring that it's actually a safe space for their customers to be during what they can see are ********** construction
The only thing I'm thankful for is that I wasn't carrying my seven month old and/or three year old as I usually do when my trolley and I fell forwards.
