Incorrectly Priced Stock - Repeated on Shelf Pricing and now on Advertised Specials

Do you trust when you see promotional specials advertised at Pick ‘n Pay that when you pick up a pack and load it in your trolley that it will be correctly priced?

Do you trust that the price labels on the shelves in Pick ‘n Pay are correct and that the price you saw on the shelf will be rung up correctly at the till? Read on….

After so many years of catching Pick ‘n Pay out at MANY stores for mis-pricing items on the shelves (having one price displayed on the shelf but always having it ring up at at a higher price at the till), we stopped shopping at Pick ‘n Pay. We now only shop there on very rare occasions if we need something that we cannot get elsewhere or if there is a worthwhile special on and we happen to be near a store. We simply got tired of complaining and found that bringing it to the attention of store managers and Pick ‘n Pay head office is of no use. So, about 6 years ago, we finally voted with our feet and took our regular shopping elsewhere.

HOWEVER, this incident last week needs to be brought to the public’s attention!

Pick ‘n Pay had a special running from Monday to Sunday last week (3rd to 9th October) and rump or porterhouse steak was advertised at R119,99. We went to Kenilworth Centre (Cape Town) store on Wednesday, 3 days into the promo only to find that ALL their packs were marked at R169.99……. R50!!!!! MORE PER KG than advertised.

We queried it at the butchery and the lady told to us bring a pack and she would reprice it. We told her that that didn’t solve the problem and that they needed to reprice ALL the stock to prevent other customers being mislead. She clearly wasn’t keen to do this until we threatened putting it on Google review at which point she got a trolley and started loading packs from the shelf into the trolley - at which point we left trusting it would have been corrected.

On Friday, we happened to be back at Kenilworth Centre and the product was back on the shelves at the higher price of R169.99 again - by now day 5 of the promo!!

We spoke to the store manager, who called the butchery manager, who blamed the staff but the staff shrugged their shoulders saying they don’t know who priced it…. basically all just passing the buck from one to the other and nothing was achieved.

So, please, when shopping at Pick ‘n Pay in general and, it seems, the Kenilworth, Cape Town store in particular, check your prices. Both prices marked on shelves versus what is rung up at the till AND that advertised specials are actually marked down to the prices advertised?
