Inappropriate employee at Pick n Pack Brackenfell

I normally enjoy shopping at Pick N Pay family store Brackenfell. This evening was different, I was shopping went down isle 3 where the box milk is took two boxes off the shelf put in my trolly and started walking away when a young man out out his hand he introduced himself as Jean-Claude (I think Claude is right) he asked me if I needed help with anything and I explained I have what I need and he proceeded to tell me how passionate he is about stocking the shelves his in charge of and going the extra mile for clients. I said to him because I was honestly impressed it was refreshing attitude not the norm, I mean two days previously at the same Pick ‘n Pay I went to the till to pay and the cashier and lady packing the goods in the bags was having such a huge chat no one greeted, didn’t ask about bags and just kept talking, no looking at me or acknowledging I was there. Back to this evenings dealings. Then Jean-Claude started talking about his personal life and his mother passing two years ago and how he could have ended up on the streets but he took time off and is back on tack now to create a better life for himself etc I listen for about 20 min. I politely agreed he was doing well and will achieve greatness if he keeps up with this attitude. I turned to walk away and he said sorry I don’t normally do this but would you be able to give me R50 for lunch. The time was approximately 18:45pm I said to him I don’t have cash. He looked around and said if his manager sees he will be in trouble but that he started working in December and had not been paid yet that’s why money was tight. I said if you hungry you can go choose anything and I will pay for it and give you the slip to show it was paid for. He said he is not allowed because he already had lunch, he took lunch and smoked his cigarettes but I can get cash back at the till. I was suddenly alone in the isle with him and said I will think about it and walked away. I was shocked, caught off guard and a little annoyed to be honest, it made me feel that I didn’t want to return to the store and encounter him again. But then I realised he must have come from a recovering background and maybe still has some old habits that needs to be untaught for him to truly move forward with his life. His introduction and people skills in the beginning was impressive and if he can hone in and master it I am sure he could be a great asset. He just needs to be told that is not something to do to clients regardless of one’s need, the wrong person gets approached and they could not say a word but never return. I do home this email will get him called in and spoken to but I would not want him to be fired, I believe I second chances.
