I need answers/ No to Slavery

I am writing on behalf of my two nephews who recently started at Pick n Pay Constantia Village Mall under ASAP

They were informed they would be on training for one week at their own cost (using their own money for transport. Today, when they were supposed to officially start, they were told training is still continuing - with no clarity on when it ends, and with no pay.

This is concerning. Expecting young people to work/train unpaid for more than a week with no clear contract is not fair labour practice.

What was more upsetting was the manner in which they were treated by the Supervisor on duty, Prudence. They described her as extremely rude, unprofessional, shouting and swearing at staff and treating trainees without respect. This is not the standard I expect from Pick n Pay.

I would like management to please provide clarity on: 1. Your official training and payment policy 2. Why trainees are expected to cover their own costs for extended unpaid training I have always supported Pick n Pay, but this experience is very disappointing. I request that this matter be investigated and addressed as a matter of urgency, otherwise I will escalate this matter to your Head Office and the relevant labour channels.
