HUMILIATED AT PICK N PAY

I went to Pick 'n Pay (Umlazi Megacity, Durban) to pay my monthly premiums for my funeral policy, I started using different PnP outlets since Nov 2020 and had no hussles. I keep the hand-written 18 digits ref number (allocated by service provider) on my wallet. The cashier told me that they don't accept hand-written ref no's. I should bring my original policy or my original PnP previous receipt. I was puzzled as I have had no problem with other PnP branches. I asked her to call the manager, who also confirmed the instruction. I questioned the rationale and inconsistency behind this; he said they have had several cases where customers provide wrong ref no's. I told him I have used the same hand-written card several times at other PnP without fail; after long debate he allowed me to make payments PROVIDED (1)he signs my till slip that there won't be any refund should there be an error in capturing and (2) next time he'll NOT accept hand-written digits. I'll like to challenge this inconsistency at PnP.
