How to beat the queues

Amazed at Hout Bay Pick n Pay today when a customer took a trolley load of food though the "up to 10 items" checkout. I presumed this checkout was to speed checkout up for customers with less than 10 items. Yes, BUT the trick to sneaking through the "quick till" with more goods is apparently to pay in different transactions. This was the excuse given to me by the teller when I asked why she was serving someone with many more times the 10 items. So..... if you have 30 items, make 3 payments, if you have 60 items..... Absurd, not to mention the sour face on the teller when I complained. Plus being told "there's your amount" as she pointed to the monitor. Are tellers trained not to speak to customers any more? And the next time I am told 210 Rand and not 210.70 I will refuse to pay the .70 - its just ******** and lazy. As it happened I could have joined one of the regular queues and been through qucker with my packet of calarami and a magazine. When this store first opened it was fairly quiet, staff were respectful and service was good. Now it is becoming more popular, service has hit the floor.
