Food that expired

I bought chicken burgers at pick n pay the Boulders and found that they expired on the 27 April 2017.

I would like to know and understand how do they have the burgers on their shelfs 6 months later after it expired, had I not checked the expiry date when i got home i would be sitting with sick children because of their incompetency and ignorance.
