Feeble response to a life threatening act by a customer
I recently experienced an unprovoked ****** attack by another customer at a Pick n Pay store. This person then went on to remove his mask and spit at me, in thee midst of the pandemic, not only endangering me but the employees at the till. I reported this to store management, and we viewed the CCTV, where the supervisor/manager recocgnised the person as a regular customer. The supervisor apologised for the behaviour of the customer. On returning home, I logged a complaint both online and telephonically. The next morning the Store manager called to hear what happened, apologised and said it will be investigated further. I requested that it must be reported as a Covid violation. Subsequently, i received an SMS to say the complaint was closed. I called Customer care and requested that the consultant update the complaint to include my request that it must be reported. A few days later the Store manager called to say that this is not a regular customer(contradicting what the supervisor said),said they will look out for this customer, then only report it. This doesn't make sense. Will Pick N pay only report a crime when they have the ******** in hand? This customer, under the current pandemic, resorted to a life threatening act, which is not being addressed accordingly.
I did receive a call. Initially the regional customer liaison personnel informed me that, as this was a personal attack, PnP wont be in a position to report it. We further discussed that albeit a personal incident, Pick n Pay staff and other customers were also exposed by the offensive anti-pandemic behaviour, putting not just my life at risk, but others as well. The underlying question here, is that if Pick n Pay does subscribe to the legally required Covid protocols, its inaction to enforce and deal with violations is contrary to legal requirements for businesses, moral obligations aside. This pandemic surely needs all stakeholders to jointly work towards managing the risk. By dismissing violations of such ******** nature, this indicates the blase attitude of any business.
