Falsely accused for shoplifting | Pick ñ Pay Clothing Queenswood

Today, 25 February 2021 my daughter was falsely accused of shoplifting at Pick ñ Pay clothing, Queenswood, Pretoria.

She was walking through the shop and looking at the clothing currently on sale. Just checking the price tags. A male staff member kept looking at her and made her feel uncomfortable. She left the store. Walked back to the Absa bank where I was and waited outside for me. While waiting outside the bank, a staff member of Pick n Pay clothing came and told her that she had to come with them back to the store as she was suspected of shoplifting. She was taken to a back room and searched, but nothing was found on her as she did not take anything from the shop and could leave.

After I was done at the bank, I went with my daughter to Pick ñ Pay clothing and asked them what the problem was. The lady at the door said that my daughter was suspected of shoplifting and they were just doing their job. I asked her, who saw her taking anything from the shop, where is the proof? The male staff member who accused her of shoplifting, came to the door and said that she was acting strange when he was around her and that is why he thought she was shoplifting. Really, really. I would also act strange and feel uncomfortable if a staff member kept looking at me and would rather leave the shop.

I did tell the lady at the door and the male staff member that this in unacceptable and I do not think that they followed the correct procedures and that it is a violation of our Human rights. The lady did say to me that it is not necessary to swear. I have a right to speak and stand up for my children. No one will tell me how to speak or what not to say if you are falsely accusing my child of shoplifting

This is a violation of my daughter’s Human rights and I will definitely take this matter further.
