False advertising

In today’s economy, we look forward to a sale. However, due to false advertising and staff members ,which include managers, that are not knowledgeable about sale items, shopping has become quite frustrating. My experience at Pick n Pay Pavilion in Durban has not been a pleasant one as I tried to buy Nando’s Perinaise which was advertised to be on special but I was charged full price for it. Upon showing the manager, Beryl, the fine print on the advert that says Perinaise 265g, it was back and forth about what the perinaise product actually was and that it is not on sale and when I asked to see the product on sale, but it was conveniently out of stock. I escalated the issue to customer care was also a dead end as they also don’t know and can’t provide evidence to what Nando’s perinaise sauce is. I requested visual image via email to show what the perinaise 265g was and they failed to send it, i received a call from Zainab who agreed that the product was on sale and that the store will call me and apologise. Only for Zainab to call back and say that when you search online only the Garlic and Paprika perinaise sauce were on sale. My argument was that these flavours were not specified in the fine print on the advert in store and in the pick n pay Catalog that is sent in newspapers nationwide and no one checks online when shopping for in store specials. This is just a case of false advertising to lure customers to the store who probably don’t check their receipts. All customer care could offer me was an apology. This doesn’t make up for my time wasted and the inconvenience of having to return the item and deal with staff that is not knowledgeable about the products in store. This is a deterrent to shop at this store as every visit I have made to Pick N pay, I always have an issue with pricing.
