Extremely Disappointing Service at Pick n Pay Maponya Mall

My spouse and I had a very disappointing experience at Pick n Pay Maponya Mall in Maponya Mall on 27 February 2026. This is our store of choice and we shop there at least once a week for our groceries. On this particular evening, we arrived at approximately 19:20. The store was scheduled to close at 20:00, so we ensured that we completed our shopping in good time. By 19:45 we were done and proceeded to the tills to pay. To our surprise, three cashiers were standing together in a group, happily chatting and not assisting customers. There was no cashier readily available to help us. After greeting them, I had to ask for assistance. It appeared that the tills had already been closed before the official closing time, which is unacceptable while customers are still shopping. We were then directed to the pensioners’ till at around 19:50. The cashier there was extremely unfriendly. Our greeting was not properly acknowledged, and she assisted us in a moody and dismissive manner throughout the transaction. Customers should never feel like an inconvenience, especially during official trading hours. Staff closing tills early and socialising while customers are waiting reflects very poorly on the store’s service standards. We expect better from Pick n Pay, particularly from a branch we support consistently. I hope management addresses this matter urgently and ensures staff are reminded of basic customer service principles and professionalism. Very disappointing experience.
