Extremely Bad Customer Service

On Sunday 23 July 2017, at around 12h15 I was at Pick ‘n Pay Sanlam Centre Pinetown doing a bit of shopping for essentials. I then preceded to the express till point, where the supervisor Ms. Nomusa Khuzwayo attended to me.

I placed all my items on the till (I had about nine items as I know express tills take 10 items or less). She looked at my items and in a rude and dismissive manner said, “We only take 5 items” whilst pointing to a sign I have never seen before.

I then kindly asked her to assist me either way as I had already unloaded my shopping cart, to which she blatantly refused. She then walked away leaving me standing there alone with no one else to assist me.

Fortunately, there was a woman nearby who worked in the store who had witnessed the whole ordeal, I then asked her to call her Supervisor hoping he/she would intervene in the matter. The woman then informed me that Nomusa was the Supervisor.

I then asked her to call the Store Manager for me instead, to which she did. The Store Manager walked up to me and did not introduced himself to me. I only learnt from the ‘other woman’ that he was a Mr. Dyasan Govender. I informed him of what had transpired and to my surprise, he too refused to assist me. Instead, he told me to join the other till point queues. I refused.

To my knowledge and understanding, a store should never refuse to service its customers, because I am a paying customer and I could have gone anywhere but I chose Pick n Pay store.

I then proceeded to ask the Store Manager for the second time to assist me, but he still refused. He too walked away leaving me standing there alone with no one else to assist me. I then decided it was best I walked out of the store, as I was not all satisfied by this mistreatment.

To add on to everything, the store was not busy on that day and I felt there was no need for Nomusa and Dyasan to treat me in the way that they did.

I don’t think I will ever recommend Pick ‘n Pay Pinetown to anyone ever, or any one of their other stores as I feel they might all be the same.

I now request that Pick n Pay Head Office Management to probe this matter.

I would like to know why I was not given descent service by Pick n Pay at Sanlam Centre in KZN Province.
