Expired food and unhappy customer

Expired food n unhappy customer I bought Totilla wraps on the 15th of September at Pick n Pay Three Rivers and only realised the next morning that they already expired on the 11th.when I called the store they said I can bring them back and they will refund me.I told them I want petrol to compensate me and we already ate them with the kids when I've got home.How reckless are they to sell expired food to customers and just say sorry.I thought health and safety says you must check expiry dates on a daily basis but Pick n Pay left food even 4 days after expiry date.
