Doubling the price of a basic food item

I am a pensioner with two medium sized dogs. I have been buying doggie bones at Pick n Pay for years, and have watched the prices of normal bones (not meaty ones) go up and down. Most recently, my PnP branch has been selling them at R6.99, which makes it affordable for me to buy 8kgs for two weeks. Imagine my surprise yesterday when I went to collect the bones I had ordered on Monday. The price on the bag was over R114.00 and when I looked more closely, I saw that the per kilo price had increased to R12.99. I called the store manager and asked for an explanation. I was told that the price was increased by head office that very morning to R14.99, but he had already given me a discount as I had ordered the previous day. While I really appreciate how the store manager tried to assist me, I do not understand how the PnP executives who sit in their airconditioned offices and earn in a month what I sc**** together in a year can DOUBLE the cost of a food item, be if for pets or for humans. If this is the plan that PnP has to get it out of trouble, they will soon see that consumers have been bled dry and are past the point of loyalty. Every cent counts at the moment, and I as well as millions of other customers will go where they can get most for their bucks.
