Displaying discounted prices that only come into affect 4 days later

I bought 2 mops on 5 January that had the price displayed as being much less than what was rung up at the till. When I queried it and went to fetch the price tag, they said that the lower prices only come into effect on 9 January. Only once they folded open the price display could one read the (very small) words that stated that the discounted price is valid from 9 January. I called the manager, who did give the items to me at the discounted price after some serious talking. Unfortunately I did not pick up that I paid the full price for the 3rd 'discounted' item I bought (a frying pan) - which was R159,99 instead of the displayed R99. Surely this is misleading the unsuspecting customer? How can a retailer (4 days before the time!!!!!) prominently display a price that's not yet applicable, and on top of it, with the price tag folded in such a way that one cannot see the "valid from"? O yes... and one of the fridges smell of rotten meat.... couldn't get away from the 2 adjacent isles fast enough. Last time you'll find me shopping there. What a pity, as I've supported them for 22 years.
