Discriminatory Treatment at Pick n Pay Noorwood

Formal Complaint Dear Pick n Pay Head Office,

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding an incident that occurred today at approximately 2:00 PM at the Pick n Pay store in Noorwood, specifically in the butchery section.

I observed a staff member marking down the prices on trays of nuggets. Instead of returning the discounted items to the display for customers to purchase, she placed all the marked-down trays into her trolley. I approached her politely and requested one tray. She instructed me to take one from the fridge; however, there were no marked-down trays available there.

Shortly thereafter, a white couple approached her and asked if they could take the nuggets. She then gave them the entire trolley of discounted trays. When I confronted her about this, she claimed that they had previously asked her to keep the items for them. This was not true, as I had witnessed the interaction and there had been no such arrangement in my presence.

I found this behaviour unacceptable and deeply upsetting. I felt disrespected and unfairly treated. As a Black customer, the incident felt discriminatory and humiliating. It is extremely concerning to experience what appears to be unequal treatment in a retail environment where all customers should be treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.

This is not the first time I have felt treated differently while shopping, but this incident has compelled me to formally report the matter. I request that this complaint be investigated thoroughly and that appropriate action be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
