Pick n pay is playing games. I complained about these over priced avos on Tuesday after getting the shock of my life over the R 21,99 per avo rate. Wrote them a long message and climate change, food insecurity and their wasteful corporate irresponsibility. The purple avocados were already in bad shape, people were stopping to buy them, seeing the price and moving on, I doubt that they managed to sell any of the purple avos between Tuesday and now. Now a few days later, there’s a new batch of avos, we all know the old ones are siting in trash can somewhere. A staff member even confirmed this. The new avos have been reduced yes, but R17,99 is still pretty crazy. These corporates don’t love use they’d rather have food go to waste than sell it at a decent price. They poison your polony and deny it. Enterprise and companies like pick n pay who over exploit for profit are ultimately the same WhatsApp. What a ****en mess. I’m ready for a black owned supermarket, maybe they’ll be better.

Thank you for taking the time to address your concerns with us.
Due to the recent droughts we had to unfortunately import our Avocados from Spain which is the reason for the current pricing.
We have removed all brands effected by Listeriosis from our fridges.

That’s my issue, that you’d rather overprice them and throw them away when we don’t buy them. You don’t win then either, I’d argue that you lose when you do that. In doing that you also further contribute to conditions that created the drought and led you to have to get avos from Spain and sell expensive produce in the first place. The polony comment was a metaphor to say you’re acting irresponsibly as a corporation, I didn’t say you haven’t removed Listeriosis products so you can calm down about that.
