Creating a Racial Incident to Conceal Poor Customer Service
Upon approaching the Tellers in the store, I noticed that once again only 2 tills were open and stood in line until I noticed movement at Till #17. I approached and found 2 staff talking, with 1 clearly being the teller. I waited for them to finish their talk & asked if she was open & “Yvonne” the cashier looked up, but did not respond. I started unpacking my trolley and greeted her, to which she responded by starting up her talk with her fellow employee, refusing to greet me. I waited for her to finally start ringing up the items which only started once she again finished her talk with her friend. Halfway through she spoke her only words to me asking me if I wanted plastic bags to which I indicated 2. When we completed the transaction I again greeted her in a friendly manner by saying: “Thank you.” To which she again just looked at me and refused to respond. I pointed out to her that she had neither greeted me upon arrival and still ignored me when I greeted upon leaving which was not great Customer Service, to which she responded “So what?” I decided to report her poor customer service to the store Manager and walked to the Customer Service Counter next to the Glass Office where 5/6 employees were standing, but none of these employees bothered to stop their laughing encounter with each other to acknowledge my presence. I decided to enter the glass office and found a male employee seated and asked to see the Store Manager in order to report the poor customer service. The gentleman at first wanted to assist me himself which I declined and insisted on the Store Manager. We walked out of the office and stood directly next to the Customer Service Counter and the male employee started looking around for the Manager. I noticed a African Male dressed in a white shirt standing with his back to us at the counter, almost touching the man that was assisting me. The man assisting me stated that he could not see the Store Manager to which I said out loud that I would escalate the matter to P&P HQ. Upon saying this, the man in the white shirt turned around asking me if he could assist. I asked him if he was the Store Manager,. To which he rep**** “Yes”. This seemed strange, as the man that was originally assisting me had not identified him as being the Manager??? I greeted him and explained the complaint I had with regards to basic Customer Service to which he said: “You whites must remember, there is a language barrier between you and our people”…Why did the Store Manager now have to turn this into a Racial Matter!!!!!! This upset me greatly and I pointed out to him to stop focusing on a racial topic that he has now created and that he should rather focus on properly managing his store, as the poor management is the reason for the store losing customers on a daily basis, which I will elaborate on with P&P senior management. This “Store Manager” wants to create a Racial Incident, in order to conceal pathetic Customer Service from his staff.
