COVID-19 protocol not in place and terrible experience with cashier Lumka
Good day PnP. I'd like to share my dissatisfaction and utterly poor experience in your Tygervalley branch at 16h40 this afternoon. Given the seriousness of #covid19 I'd really like to point out that the staff at this branch do not take this matter seriously, now let me tell you I am not worried about myself, I am however worried about carrying this virus over to my 6 month old baby as a result of this PnP pt following the correct and strict protocol. I noticed that the cashier (Lumka) had not sanitized the stainless steel surface prior to me arriving at the till (note that COVID-19 lifespan is 72 hours on stainless steel), I also noticed that she had not sanitized her hands and added to this no PPE was worn in a high traffic area.
As I witnessed the above I decided to rather scan my 2 items to prevent any spread given the chance. I successfully scanned the 1st item with no objection from the cashier, note I only said that I would like to scan my own items. Once trying to scan the 2nd item it struggled to scan and trying after several times (This can be views on CCTV) I asked Lumka to assist, she refused, while she had an audience of about 6 colleagues just looking on talkimg in the mother language and laughing, which I assume they were insulting me and found it amusing.
I looked onto the nearest superior who jumped in to assist after witnessesing this and she immediately grabbed a plastic and scanned my item. I paid for it and entered into conversation with her around my concerns as a valuable customer who brings in the little money they are currently getting.
She agreed it was out of line and during this conversation the cheer leaders (employees) started greeting loud and disrespectful about what transpired. At this point I felt humiliated, disrespected, inferior, undervalued and discriminated against.
I asked to speak with the store manager as this now became an incident whereby I felt action was required as no customer should be treated this way.
AL (store manager) came from unpacking the truck outside, I totally understand he was not immediately available as they are working with skeleton staff. He came in a slightly emotional manner, this was evident in his immediate attitude of defense and his hand that quivered. He stated that he and the staff had been on the receiving end the entire day and I need to be tolerant? As if we don't all have our own issues to deal with during this lockdown! He added that the government has let them down and is not funding the taxis and therefore they spend 70% of their salary to get to work, surely this is not something you discuss with your customers?
AL added to the above and said the staff had been lambasted with racial slurs the entire day, once again nothing to do with my incident and why didn't you contact the police to deal with it?
All in all, AL expects his customers to tolerate the above and still come in and shop during this challenging times. I'm not saying I'm not empathetic but what I am saying is I should neve have been treated like that and they should really follow the protocol that has been communicated on all the communication channels as on my visit it was evidently not.
I would like a response to this and I would also like to see the employees take this more seriously as my next step will be reporting this store to Aspirata Trading as NOSA Testing
Please confirm what measures are currently in place during #lockDownSouthAfrica as I know this store is not following the requirements.
Thank you for taking the time to read my valid concerns and trust I will receive prompt feedback.
I dislike complaints but the above is for the best interest of thousands of customers and would hate for the sake of your business to shop at a nearby competitor for health reasons. We are already in a financially challenging time and that could really not do your business well.
