Chicken off-fridge not cool enough

Bought a tray of chicken portions yesterday afternoon, good home to cook then and actually cooked them. Only to find that they are off, my suspicion is the fridges used to keep these. It is simply not cool enough, it crossed my mind when I was picking the tray up but thought they’d never sell off food especially with the expiration date 4/5 days away.
