Chasing Business Away

On Sunday 31 December 2017 at about 10h30 we shopped at Red Ruth store. On joining the checkout queue a pick n pay employee advised us to go to the cigarettes counter for a faster checkout. Two other persons were ahead of us in the cigarettes counter queue and were checked out successfully. As we were about to be served a supervisor named Gugu instructed the cashier not to serve us unless we purchased something from the cigarette counter. We advised Gugu that we had been instructed by a member of staff to join this queue for a faster checkout. Gugu refused to believe us unless we could give her the name of the employee, which is an unreasonable request. The Pick n Pay uniform was adequate authority for us. Gugu’s approach was most unfriendly and she gave us the impression that she was making a point of her supervisory status. We decided to leave our shopping and go elsewhere which did not phase Gugu. In fact when we advised we would report the matter she seemed proud to have us record her name from her name badge. Staff with the attitude of Gugu should rather be employed in a back office area where they are not able to damage the Pick n Pay brand in this manner. We reported the matter to ********** and received an automated response at 11h02 on 1 January 2018. Since then we have heard nothing from Pick n Pay suggesting they don't really care about their customers.
