Charged a deposit

I bought a Soda Stream machine at the Hospice. So when I went to PnP Pavilion I happened to learn that they sell the full cylinders used to create the bubbles.

I did not have the empty with me so I was charged a deposit on top of the fee charged when changing the cylinder. (+_R120 I think, it was a while ago.)

The next time I took both cylinders when I did the exchange and was credited for both.

So when the machine eventually gave in I wanted to return the cylinder and be credited on my next purchase wich just happened to be catfood.

I was promptly informed by a manager that a credit will only be given on an exchange for a full cylinder.

I cannot understand why I had to pay a deposit on the cylinder in the first place. Also, I cannot recall ever being told that such a deposit is non refundable.

...and lastly, if PnP have a new policy in place regarding such cylinders it would be fine with me. I can understand that they are providing a service and collecting a service fee for their troubles. But at least provide me with an address / contact details etc. of the company you deal with to enable me to get my deposit back.
