Careless pick n pay truck driver!
On the 2nd December 2020 a pick n pay truck driver from pick n pay distribution centre in Lansdowne n cape town bumped the mirror of our brand new car. Driver drove away as if nothing happened, luckily the robots closed and when he was approached he claimed the load on his truck was heavy because of that his truck loses balance and that it hadn't been the first time it causes an accident. He immediately called office to report accident. Driver wanted to exchange numbers and get back but driver was advised to open an accident report at Lansdowne police station. Both signatures were asked from both the pick n pay truck driver and my patner who was driving, both parties signed acknowledging what had happened. The following day when we visited the branch my patner spoke to Adriana who showed us a different statement which the truck driver wrote, claiming that he was forced to take the blame. How do you force an adult in front of the police to sign and agree to an accident he didn't cause? Adriana was advised that the is an accident report which the truck driver had signed so we couldn't understand the sudden change of statement. Adriana did however asked to be sent the accident report in his phone of both parties signing and that was done. He also said the branch manager was working nigh shifwill get back and replace the mirror. We waited 2 days no contact. We called Adriana and claimed he will remind Rudi to contact us but didn't. What's funny is that when we called the truck driver he asked us to get a quotation so that he can pay it on the 24th because he claimed he's scared to lose his job. We couldn't take the offer because we going away on the 17th and we needed the mirror fixed ASAP. Again we went to the branch, my patner met with the branch manager and asked why he wasn't contacted, he claimed he didn't understand the accident report so he was waiting rather for us. The he gave my patner his details and the insurance and asked us to get 3 quotations for the mirror and send it to him, we did and no response. Earlier on Rudi had said he will fax documents to insurance, when we call insurance later on the day they said they are unaware of the situation so they asked if we could send the documents directly to them and we did. The insurance had also said they will enquire at the distribution and get back to us but didn't. We phoned again following day, the manager was not available, the day after manager was swamped with meetings. Today when we do call again they claim that they had resent the driver to re do the statement, how does that even make sense??! We the ones that were bumped into and we chose to do this in the most civil manner and when we atleast want our car fixed we are given a run around! We did advise the insurance lady Ilse today that we are taking this matter further because there is no way that someone can agree to causing an accident and then after be asked to re do the statement to dispute. Since he also claimed he was forced, we are going back too to the police station to speak to the police that opened the accident report to confirm if there was any party forced to sign because it makes no sense how these managers are believing it unless they don't want to take responsibility for their workers. And what's upsetting is that at times when we go there they don't even let us in and we have to waste our time and petrol!
