Can they be trusted?

My weekly grocery shopping takes me to a PnP supermarket in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. With the recent store revamp it is more convenient than before, but there are still challenges at tillpoints. I have raised the issue more than a year ago with different levels of store management to highlight to them that the till does not face the customer whilst items are being scanned as one would experience in other major stores. The slogan "the price you see is the price you pay" is very much app**** in retail. The only challenge with this is the inconvenience you and other customers have to endure whilst the issue is resolved. Shoppers become very irate when queues take too long and we rather than the cashier start to feel the heat. On more than one occasion I have experienced the till price much higher than the shelf price - only to be told that "head office did not advise the store in time". It is always after the fact that I scrutinize the till slip at home and raise any discrepancies with store. More often they ask one to come back and as a kind gesture offer you that item free of charge. I have complained to the area management of this chain but to no avail - they pass the problem from one to the other. I don't think customers complain in order to be gifted with freebies - it is more about ethical business practice. Customers have a choice from an array of retailers out there but as a result of brand loyalty we have been patronizing our retailer of choice. As a customer our basic requirements are product quality, availability, price, store etiquette and honest business practice. How many of us actually review our till slips after shopping?
