Broken light, Broken quality, Broken service, Broken guarantee

Due to load shedding, I love the magic rechargeable lights sold by pick n pay on the Pick n Pay brand. I bought a few in 2018 and it still works. I like to be prepared for load shedding and even before the resent load shedding happened I bought 3 lights again for different areas of the house in July. But this time the quality of the lights was very poor. I return backlights multiple times. Replacing it hoping it will be a better batch. The last light fused some time ago but I only manage to return it last Saturday. I went to returns and she requested a manager of that department. The manager advises me that they cannot take the return because the light was bought in July. I pointed out to her that on the box of the light it states a 1-year guarantee on the battery and a 2-year guarantee on the light. Well, she mentioned something about the shop policy of returns. I understood the shop policy but I argued how could Pick n Pay put a guarantee on a product they are not willing to honour. Her last comment was that well sir it is an open box. What she was insinuating that I could be less than ethical and could have replaced the working globe with a broken one or an old globe. This insinuation is clearly directed at me trying to be dishonest in my dealings. This actually is ironic as my old globes are still working. I have never had such an underhanded insult given to me.
