Barcode Supersedes Service!!

I went to Pick n Pay today; In an amongst other things, I required stewing lamb. There were three packs in the fridge. Because I specifically needed 1kg, I requested for the packs to be repacked to make a kg. The assistant in the butcher gladly offered to help but then came back and said the price attached to the barcode has now increased and that it wasn't possible to change the price even though the packs I chose from the fridge had a different (lesser) price to what the internal barcode was displaying. I was told that the meat I chose was from a special over the weekend. I asked what's to happen to the meat I asked to be repacked. I was told that it would be classified as "waste". So the bottom line, they were rather going to "discard" the meat than give it to me at the lesser price. But on the other hand, they were also trying to fob the same meat off on me at the higher price - all because of the barcode price that nobody seemed able to override.
