Bad service/decaying mushrooms

12/02/2024 Monday around 17.00 Pick & Pay Hypermarket ,Arbour Crossing Amanzimtoti,South KZN.I am disappointed with the quality of the mushrooms sold under a promotional offer.I do have photos as prima facie evidence and will disclose same should it be necessary.Food safety compromised & manager & team arrogant and ********(lacks knowledge) of consumers needs of reasonably fresh mushrooms irrespective of price reduction. I have fears/concerns of a negative impact on safety and health issues of consumers arising from the fact that mushroom consumption has sporadic cases of mushroom food poisoning & sometimes human poisoning cannot be made non toxic by cooking.Pick and Pay must consider its consumers with weakened immune system and cease & desist from promotional offers that are intentionally and deliberately offered as inferior quality(spoilage) of any such goods than those generally available to any other consumer.I observed the prepackaged white sliced mushrooms discoloration to dark brown -black & considered them to be decaying.Furthermore closer visual inspection of the mushrooms indicated a slimy wet texture and smelled foul slightly;& in my opinion could contain harmful bacteria that may lead to food poisoning & botulism and should not be eaten.Pick &Pay should err on the side of caution &throw away spoiled mushrooms instead of trying to make maximum profits at the well being and health of the consumer****** &Pay is allegedly in violation of the Consumer Protection Act,No.68 of 2008,section 55 consumers right to safe, good quality goods. There are many previously disadvantaged persons and Pick and Pay should not exploit the marketplace as the spirit and purpose of the aforesaid Act are to promote and advance the social and economic welfare of consumers in south africa especially the low income persons and communities. The above matter was handled in a completely unprofessional and ********* manner and I am extremely frustrated with the inefficiencies and incompetency of the manager and team.I exited the store a very unhappy and dissatisfied customer and do not wish for any other customer to experience such a negative situation.I trust PnP will action accordingly and take punitive or rehabilitative steps to correct this poor conduct of its staff members so as to protect its brand and maintain and sustain its customer base and not lose loyal customers unnecessarily to competitors in this fragile economic environment
